#1 OMFG lag...
CPU: P4 2.80GHz
RAM: 1.5GB
My Apache:
CPU Usage: u164.83 s77.74 cu.01 cs0 - .12% CPU load
5.14 requests/sec - 27.1 kB/second - 5.3 kB/request
35 requests currently being processed, 20 idle workers
WW__._.W.WWW_W_..W_WW.W.W.__WWWW..W..._..WW.W._WWW._..._.W..W_..
.....WW..W.W..._.W.W.W_..W..._.__W_.W....._.....................
................................................................
................................................................

I'm using the standard file method, and I've even using the ramdisk as directed:

none on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw)
/dev/shm/mychat

Yet if I have more than 18 users in chat, everything on the server lags to hell, today I experienced 25 users in the chat... not something I ever care to experience again.

# 2 Often, more so when there are more users in chat, when a user times out from chat, the focus of the window people are chatting in is automatically switched back to the main chat room... This is very bad, if people are chatting in a PM to someone else, or in another room entirely... hell, if they leave the main room, and are only chatting in the other room, they are *STILL* yanked back into the default room...

My users love the chat, except for these issues, which if they were fixed and all was great in the world, I would be happy to keep using instead of being on the hunt again for another chat application that works well with firewalls and all that jazz...

So... not really anything happening on this is there? Or any ideas as to how to solve these problems? It's really beginning to get worse as more people are using the chat on a regular basis and I'm on the verge of considering using a private irc server and using something like this as a front-end for it, but if the ajax is the problem, then there's no point to that...

Could you check the CPU and the RAM occupation when you have 20 (or more) connected user ?

RAM eaten. 100% of ram eaten, lot of apache processes hangs in W state.
I have hard limited ram for vserver with chat, because otherwise WHOLE site dies (no ram left).
I have 1 gb ram + 1 gb swap.
In normal operation, only 300mb of ram eaten with all sites in system.
If users come, ram grows massively.
CPU load also jumps to 100%, but I think that because of swapping.
Load average go to 100 and higher.
