Trying to install...can\'t get into the chat room

Looking forward to trying the chat program, but can't seem to get it working. The chat rooms all load (demos, etc.) but I can't seem to get into the chat room and post messages. If I type something, it says "Please enter your nickname" but how do I do that? The connect button doesn't seem to do anything. Even the demos which pop up the field to enter a nickname don't work, I have the same problem with them. I turned debug on for the main test chat, but don't see anything more than before.
