Simple.

Now I'm a bit of a PHP newbie but have managed to install and modify phpbb and a guest book on my site with little to no problems but I cant get this to work.

I have uploaded all the files to my site. Changed Chmod on the relevent files. Loaded and ran the setup.php file but all i keep getting is errors. such as

Adding file: /data/private/.htaccess ...............................[failed]Failed: could not file. Exiting...

And this is after I have painstakingly changed chmod on mearly all the files going.

What am I doing wrong? Strangly if I go into demo I can get a semo chat room but I want to be able to have a direct link to it in my site and customise the page to give it the feel of my own site.

As I say I'm a bit of a newbie at this sort of thing so any help will be appreciated.

I am fairly new to scripts, but it installed fairly easily. I did not use the setup.php.

I just downloaded the zip file to my computer, unzipped it, then FTP'd it to my web folder. I set all my folders to CHMOD 755, except data/public and data/private which I set to CHMOD 777 as instructed. I have since played with the params in index.php to change the board title, but that's about it. I currently have version 0.7 but will be upgrading soon to 0.8.

I am able to use it OK, but one of my friends connected but could not chat or change her default guest name, or see my posts. I don't know if that is a Mac problem or not. Waiting for someone else to try it:

I deleted them!

Since managed to get a chat room working just! But there are a few errors that are a bit iffy. Such as when you hide the smillie page and user names you cant get them back.

I'm hoping to intergrate this with the rest of my site so any tips would be apprecieated. Such as what files to edit to change the look.
Take a look at my phpbb forum to see what I kinda want to do.

Have to say that my initial impression of the chatroom is good however the documentation behind it appears to be aimmed more at someone who has a knowledge of PHP etc. Not sure if this is intentional or not. Have you ever considered an Admin panel? Or more simple instructions?

Tried your chat room! Worked fine for me!

Thanks, NitroNick, for checking my site. Glad it worked!

I noticed that even though I set data/private CHMOD 777 initially, when I specified the $params["title"] to my own custom name it created a new folder under data/private but it did not have permission 777, it had 755. So I had to again CHMOD 777 on the new folder. I think my friend couldn't chat because I hadn't noticed that little permission problem yet. Now it should work. But if I rename the title again, I will have to CHMOD the new folder that is generated.
