Easiest way to quickly customize and get chat online????

Hello

I'm very new and feel a bit overwhelmed with the many options to customize.

1. Is the index.php always the file that the chat page uses?

2. I liked the Blune theme and tried copying all the code and pasting it in the index.php (after deleting the index info) and it didn't work. I was hoping it would be that simple. Is there something I'm missing?

3. I read that I have to rehash after I update the index.php for it to take affect. I'm a bit confused cause I'm using my server's simple script control panel. Any suggestions?
