Memory resource usage exceeding 512MB

i just installed the latest version and uploaded it to the server and ran it with no customization. it ran successfully.

however,i was monitoring memory usage on the shared server (greengeeks.com) which gives me max of 512MB memory usage.

with only 1 client running, the per minute "average" memory usage goes up to as high as 10MB but the "max" usage goes as high as 250MB.
to test, i ran 3 clients.
bursts of memory usage went to max of 512MB.
is this normal for phpfreechat?
am i doing something wrong?

btw, i was monitoring the memory usage from "resource usage" utility in cpanel.
