Gave it a test run and well... take a look for yourself at http://www.unitedforprogress.com/chat/index.php Do whatever you need to there to test things. I'm guessing the beta doesn't everything coded in yet, or I'm doing something wrong and missed important stuff.

1. Seems to be a lot of currupted files. I took a look at one of the currupted files and saw nothing wrong with it.
2. It never prompts for user name. It surely can set one if you define it.
3. The admin user section is scary looking. Looking for nonexistent files (.htpasswd, etc.)
4. Blank config page... guessing because nothing is really coded in the configuration.php area hehe

Anyway, phpfreechat is awesome so keep up the great work! 8)

EDIT: I downloaded the zip pack

Humm :
"corrupted - ./themes/default/templates/chat.html.tpl.php (please replace this file by a correct one)
corrupted - ./themes/default/templates/pfcclient.js.tpl.php (please replace this file by a correct one)"
Can you reupload the corrupted files ?
I don't understand why you can't get correct files ...

Well, I think I figured it out... I hope. Every time I think I know what it is, it ends up being something else.

I'm using filezilla to upload my files but it's not working correctly. I have no idea why it's just those corrupted files... it's the oddest thing. Everything else uploads fine in filezilla. I'm even using the latest version of it... oh well.

Thanks for your help, I'm going to be baffled by this for awhile. heh.

EDIT: Ahah! Filezilla autodetect is faulty. Was using ASCII on those files when it should have been binary.

Alright, reuploaded all the corrupted files and they are now ok... previous problems still exist though.

EDIT: Maybe I shouldn't post anything for awhile... I figured the other stuff out. The admin folder needs chmod 777 and all files need to be uploaded as binary because of the hash checks. Sorry for the trouble hehe.
