Okay, here's the thing. I am testing pfc on my website because i like the looks and feel of it.

My host: Shared Hosting from Host Gator
My phpfreechat test url: www.chickentalk.org/phpBB3/oldchat
Can it be reproduced in your demo: probably not???? not sure.

Here is the thing, when I'm in Chrome or FireFox, the chat works great! No timeout issues, chat is stable and working good. However, when i'm running chat in Internet Explorer 8 (yes, in compatibility mode) if I idle in chat for about 1 minute, then it will timeout even though im still there. This doesn't happen in FF or Chrome, if you wait about five mins, it will come back but after a few seconds it will timeout again and if you say anything while it's "timedout", it will show it in Chrome or FF, but not in IE as long as it's "timed out".

I have ran phpfreechat, same installation on a separate host (freehostia.com) and had no trouble at all with it, but since I've been on Host Gator, it is doing this.

For some reason, I guess IE is not replying/refreshing when it's suppose to and it timesout, even though im still opened in chat. This has nothing to do about the connection speed, it does this on Dialup and Hi speed, but only in IE, no other browser.

My question is, on my new host (Host gator), is there a php problem on it somewhere, if I was to approach the support team at Host Gator, what would I ask them to help fix this issue as I think its somewhere in the php stuff. thank you very much, please help.

Thanks!

Okay Old wolf, i will answer these for ya too to help...

PFC Version:
PHP Version: PHP Version 5

Shared or Dedicated Hosting: Shared
Link to your website: http://chickentalk.org/phpBB3/oldchat

Are you able to reproduce the issue on the official demo (http://www.phpfreechat.net/demo)?
No, but I can reproduce it on my own site all the time!

Have you set any parameters? If so, please include your code.
NOPE, no new parameters, I have done NO changes (even the isadmin is still there)

What is the issue you are experiencing in detail?
I explained the issue above.

Are you seeing any error messages, such as javascript errors?
Nope! No errors! Just the "problem".

I am wondering, is Phpfreechat NOT compatible with php v5, is that why? Please help before i cry LOL

Here is how I reproduce it.

1. Open my chat on my website ( http://chickentalk.org/phpBB3/oldchat ) in Internet Explorer, and ALSO open it in FireFox or Chrome.
2. Do not say anything in either one, just site and wait about 2-3 minutes in FireFox or Chrome, and after about 2-3 mins of Internet Explorer Idling, you will see that IE has timedout and the only way to make IE start working again is if you say something or refresh the page.

Any ideas??????

If it only times out in IE and not any other browser, why not just use another browser? It's simple logic at it's best. Specially when you consider that IE was outdated before it was even released...

Alright, I gave it a shot.. I ran FF, Chrome, and IE8 all for 45 minutes on your server. None timed out. Even double checked by sending something from each browser and confirming the others received it. Sorry, but I cannot reproduce your bug.

I think I missed this thread before, I am also hostgator costumer and pfc 1.2 up 1.3 timeout with IE 8 if I get to the chat with IE8 and leave it for a minute it will time out, I would see the last update and people that were by the time it was still updating but others would have seem that my nick time out and when I type I seem the message the other saw and then if I type again the chat starts showing what I am typing but if I stop typing a minute later stops...
I had installed version pfc 1.3 but revert back to pfc 1.2 and it has the same behavior, I have done some testing and find out that pfc1b11 don't have this behavior I wonder what have changed and later versions that does IE to quit so fast...
Let me test the demo in IE8 never tried..
will be back with my findings..

No,

It don't happens in the demo I wonder why is this, would be nicely to see the phpfreechat php info to see what the differences although I can repeat this behavior in Localhost xampp..
Anyone else wanna try the chat in their websites if does the same for them... That would certainly iron out if is a host issue....

May I know if it is standalone or is connected with CMS system and if that system uses sessions?

thanks

Lost my password for "chicken" so I am using this account. I still have the same issue. I did not have the chat integrated with anything, nor did I change any parameters. It was all set default. If you let IE sit there for a while it will come to for a few minutes, but as soon as it does it will timeout again within a few minutes. I am using Host Gator.

I have it reinstalled at http://chickentalk.org/phpfreechat/ , you can see for yourself. I personally hate IE but a lot of my visitors use it, so I just can't ignore it. I have been using a different chat script but I'd like to get this one to work.

I have noticed the Demo on this site doesn't have this issue. Is the demo using the latest version?

restars, any information on this. I'm gonna be looking at it for a while today, I'll post back if I get anything.

I am testing php Free Chat 1 beta 11 and so far so good. No timing out yet. I think I will use this version just because it seems to work fine for me and I don't see any issues. I will now look into integrating it with phpBB.

The timeout bug appears in that installation, i have v1 b11 installed elsewhere, it will timeout any browser in general but that bug was fixed in the new versions. php free chat 1.2 and 1.3 (and all the rest) have the same timeout error for IE.

What is the difference with phpfreechat demo and the regular download, other than the demo on this site is integrated with punbb/dokuwiki?

I see you tested my installation, and I see you got the timeout error :P ... I have successfully integrated php free chat 1 beta 11 with phpBB3, but I do know old versions have security issues, so I don't want to use it.

I still have phpfreechat 1.3 installed at http://chickentalk.org/phpfreechat/ if anyone wants to try it and see for themselves. I also tried this in IE9 Beta on a Windows 7 computer, same timeout error. I don't even know where to begin to try to fix this.
