i could use some help with admin settings

again i have been reading but i can't find a good tutorial on how to set the admin name and pasword
i have seen some parameter but not where to place them or what file to use

What you need to do is this:

make sure you put the '' in the code..
where username is the name you want to make admin and
password the pass you wanna use..
to become admin you use the following:
1.- enter the chat with the nick you have put in the code, example "username"
2.- use the command /identify password

this way you become admin...

chatbox is nice
but its starting to be very hard to understand and find stuff for this

in my opinion you are the admin and developper so i think you should do more about these things
either delete them or edit them and make some rules about how to post hacks, addons, modifications this way noobs like me can understand them aswell

even the parameter page is very unfriendly

I am neither admin nor developer.
Three months ago I was a complete newbie too.
But in those three months I have tried to understand how it all works.

To be fair, if you are a complete novice, are you trying to do something that's too hard? The regex code belongs where you see the rest of the regex code - I don't know what line it is exactly, but there's 20 lines of regex code, that looks similar, that starts in the same way. It should be really, really obvious to put the new lines there.

If you do not know what a tyre looks like how can you repair a flat tyre ?
Personally I am happy to explain, but I have no responsibility to make a noob smarter. That's your job.

Google is good.
An array is a sequence of related values.
So .. .. for example ..
$params['admins'] = array('peppi' => 'roni');
.. means your name is peppi and the password is roni

I am not offended in the slightest, but you need to understand how to set the chat up, and use it as intended, and understand the basics, before you can do hacks and modifications.

Why don't you provide a link?

to be honnest my reply was a reaction on old wolf his reply
and i am not a complete novice in these things
i have installed many addons.hacks on my forums (phpbb) and did some modifications on vBulletin also
these modifications are mostly wel documented in how to implement or replace code's
they say wich file and where to place it or what to replace

and the parameterpage here is made by the admin i presume
so its not all that difficult to place the examples there


but this go's way out of topic maybe i should open a topic about this in bugs or request

My statement was pertaining to this specific topic. What do you not understand about admin. It's been explained, I've asked you once, now let me ask again. Specifically, what do you not understand about admin? Don't reply telling me you just don't get it or what you think it should have. What don't you understand? If you can't formulate a specific question, there's no way on earth I'm going to be able to give you a specific answer.

That's his call, not mine! I can't control what he decides to share, nor can I control how much he documents them! I'm not going to tell users they can't post resources just because you don't understand them, many people do, and it's helpful to them.

Quite frankly, you should be thankful that users are posting anything at all, and that they're willing to volunteer their time and ideas.
No, I'm not going to delete them or tell users that they can only post their ideas if they follow specific rules, because quite frankly (again), I doubt anyone WOULD post then. I'd rather they share their code, and those with competency in php can at least use it, than remove it all, just because you can't.

Those modififcations you refer to are not officially supported, and I don't intend to start supporting them. If you want to modify your chat beyond the intetions of the original design, by all means, go for it... ask others, look into posts, do whatever you like to get the info. But they aren't officially supported, and I'm not about to design a whole system to organize and maintain them when we barely have enough help to answer questions on basic usage within the design of the original software.

Oh, you mean like that thing at the very top which tells you exactly how to use the parameters? Keep in mind that I can't force you to read the first paragraph in the page. I haven't had one user, after reading that paragraph, not understand how they were used. You're going to have to explain how that doesn't cover it if after reading it you still don't understand.

This chat is designed a certain way, and supported to be used that way. Anything beyond that you are welcome to attempt, but I'm not going to make it "official." I'm happy to help answer any questions on those parameters that you might still have... that's why the forum is here after all.
