I'd like to pop up a new browser window whenever a new guest enters the chat room. Is there a setting for this? If not, what code file would be the best one to look at so I can code it myself?

I want to be able to minimize browser when the chat room is inactive, and be alerted when a new user wants to chat.

Thanks.

I don't understand why you want to open a new window... what do you want to put into ?
However, you can look at the notifyTab function in src/client/pfcgui.js this function is called when someone speak in a unactive tab.

Kerphi,

Thank you for this reply and your other reply.

I want to pop up a new window so if I am away from the chat room and I don't have the chat room visible on my screen, I can know when a new user has entered the chat room and wants to talk. Right now I have to keep going back to the browser and browser tab with the chat room to see if a new user has entered the chat room. The new window simply would be an "alert notice" to get my attention.

I'll take a look at notifyTab.

Kerphi,

I looked at notifyTab and for a quick fix, that will do fine in the short term. I was also hoping for something I could check via a server side function. I read some threads here about "who's online" API functions but I'm not sure how to do that myself. I'm more than happy to write/modify code on the server side to get it done.

Thanks.

You must explain what you want to do exactly server side. I can't understand what you need with your above explainations.

Kerphi,

As I said in the post I made in the Troubleshooting forum, I've got everything working now. With the piece you just gave me about metadata on that thread, I can even make it work the way I want.

I hooked into updateNickList() instead, so I can pop up an alert box whenever the nick list change. I only do it if it matches the admin user name. With the new metadata features, I'll be able to change that so it only pops up an alert box if the current user is an admin.

As I said, phpFreeChat is great stuff. :)
