Hello. Thanks to the developers, mods, etcetera for this great piece of software.

Whenever I navigate to the page that my PFC is embedded into, the screen automatically scrolls down to the chat window. This causes problems because we want to have people read the chat room guidelines before joining.

I tried to use the focus_on_connect parameter to fix this, based on a note in version 0.9.1 release notes: "New “focus_on_connect” parameter: Setting this to true will give the focus to the input text box when connecting to the chat. It can be usefull not touch the focus when integrating the chat into an existing website because when the focus is changed, the viewport follows the focus location."

Unfortunately, this approach doesn't seem to be working for me. The chat box still steals the focus whenever people join.

SUPPORT TEMPLATE: (the relevant parameter code is pasted below)
PFC Version: 1.3
PHP Version: 5.2.9

Shared or Dedicated Hosting: Shared
Link to your website: http://tmswiki.medialayer.net/dropinchat/

Are you able to reproduce the issue on the official demo (http://www.phpfreechat.net/demo)? Hard to tell since I can't set parameters

Have you set any parameters?
If so, please include your entire code, using the
and
tags (without the space).
Code: Select all
$params = array();
$params["title"] = "PPD/TMS Peer Support Drop-In Chat";
$params["nick"] = "guest".rand(1,1000);  // setup the initial nickname
$params['firstisadmin'] = true;
$params["serverid"] = md5(__FILE__); // calculate a unique id for this chat
$params["debug"] = false;
$params["focus_on_connect"] = false;
$params["max_text_len"] = 1000;
//$params["channels"] = array(1 => "Peer Support");
// $params["connect_at_startup"] = false;
$chat = new phpFreeChat( $params );

What is the issue you are experiencing in detail? See above

Are you seeing any error messages, such as javascript errors? No

Thanks for the prompt response, OldWolf.

Yes, I have. I logged in with admin privileges (shield) and typed "/rehash". It responded with "Configuration has been rehashed." I then forced the page to reload several times by pressing Control-F5, but each time, it jumped me from the top of the page down to the chat box. I'm running FF 8.0.1 (current).

Okay, I think I may have discovered what is going on. I can easily reproduce the bug in FireFox 8.0.1, but it doesn't happen in Internet Explorer 9.0.3, 64 bit or Chrome 12.0.

WOULD SOMEONE ELSE BE WILLING TO VERIFY FOR ME THAT THIS HAPPENS IN THE CURRENT VERSION OF FIREFOX? I've been around long enough to know that most supposed "bug reports" on forums aren't (and shouldn't be) taken seriously by developers unless they are independently reproduced. At the same time, this seems to be a glitch in FF, and if the developers know about it, perhaps they can work around it.

Again, on my computer, this is easily reproducible in Firefox, but doesn't happen in IE or Chrome.

Hi,

I got firefox 8.0.1 and doesnt go down to the chat view , I can easily read your guidelines and if I scroll down I can see I am randomly given a nickname.

If this isnt happening to you then probably you have a cache problem.. with firfox
regards.

Many thanks to you and a chat participant named utan who also checked and got the same result. I completely emptied my FF cache and the problem went away.

It's a little disappointing that Control-F5 wasn't enough, but such is life.

I consider this issue solved. Thanks for the help.
