Hi Stephane and the phpFreeChat development team

It now takes the Moodle CMS' username as the chat username

In addition, I have extended the functionality of phpFreeChat within a Moodle site.
So you can now...(drum-roll please)....

...embed Youtube videos into the chat-stream via this command:
[y]youtube url[/y]

...embed a voicethread into the chat-stream via this command:
[[vt:voicethread value]]
-or-
[[vtsmall:voicethread value]]

..embed an image (jpg, png, gif) into the chat-stream via this command:
http://website-url.com/filename.jpg or png or gif
ActuallyI found out how to do the image embed from this forum on phpfreechat.net. Heh.
I thought that an image embed was worth having.

Ihave introduced this modified version (distro?) ofphpFreeChat to the Moodle community.
I am sure that this will result in more traffic of interested Moodle users to find outmore about the commands, syntax and nuances of your excellent phpFreeChat.

P.S., I named (christened) the modified version as FreeEmbedChat. I am also respecting yout licensing rules by keeping the green parrot (parakeet? mackaw?) linkback logo on the chat widget.

Hey, that's awesome. I'll go ahead and sticky this thread until we find a more permanent linking solution!

Hi OldWolf

Thanks for your reply.

I've also implemented the "user can post multiple-line input" by using a [br] syntax:
E.g.,
text.....[br]text......[br].

For a working demo, please check out my production site at
http://scm.moodleace.com/course/view.php?id=44
Username: student
Password: moodle
Click on the PHPFreeChat green collapsible topic tab.

FreeEmbedChat works best with Mozilla Firefox. I believe it has some issues with Internet Explorer. If your browser is internet Explorer AND previous link of the demo did not work for you (all you saw was blank chat window with no sign of activity), then click on this link: http://scm.moodleace.com/mod/resource/view.php?id=3302

To download the modified code (95% original PHPFreeChat code is stock and untouched), head to my Blog:
http://moodurian.blogspot.com/2011/08/f ... -chat.html

In my blog, I've written about how to improve the chat further.
Maybe you guys could look into extending the functionality.

It would be awesome if the user could upload a PDF file, and the system would generate the OBJECT embed code to embed a PDF file (with fullscreen zoom option) into the chat stream.

The discussion on Moodle.org is taking place here:
http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=183670

Happy php coding and
MANY THANKS FOR AN AWESOOOOOME CHAT system that is PHPFreeChat!!!!!

Unfortunately at the moment we don't have any active developers and it remains an "as is" software package. However, as people make contributions they are added into threads here on the forums for others to use.

If anyone is interested in developing they can contacting kerphi to gain access.

Ok, then I'll make it my personal project to pursue the PDF functionality feature.
Once it's ready, I'll share with it you guys and the rest of the Moodle world.

Using iframe you can also insert pfc into wordpress. But I have not yet figured out how to make the chat align to the left. So I can not make it look nice in my sidebar yet.
