PHP Version warning ..... why ?

Trying to instal V2.1.0 and have added all the documented text to my html but I'm getting a message on screen, top left, that is only partly visible but I believe it states that "PHP version 5.2.17 must be >= 5.3.0".

I checked my hosting package and it was Version 5.2 so I upgraded that to 5.4 and I still get the warning.

Is it a case of waiting until the server updates or do I have to do something ?

Don't want to give up on this script but - as far as I can see - I've followed instructions and it isn't working.
