Moderating a channel

Postby ElizaLeahy » Wed Jan 02, 2013 7:56 am

A feature that would be much appreciated would be the ability to moderate a channel so that only ops, or those who have been given "voice" can talk. We use the chat to run fan based meetings with authors, and although we ask people to be "adult" there are always those that think what they have to say is more important then rules.

Many thanks for considering this.

It's yet planned to implement role management in pfc v2 with kick ban to control.

If i understand well, what you would like to have is these folowing commands:
/voice <nickname>
/unvoice <nickname>

When an admin run /voice on a username he can speak in the room
When an admin run /unvoice on a username he cannot speak anymore in the room BUT he can see other speakers texts.

Am i correct with your thoughts ?

Yes, exactly. It's not appropriate in these sessions to kick or ban people as many would take offense and it is not our position to drive fans away from these authors. But they understand not being allowed to talk until the floor is open for questions. Moderating the channel would be the solution.

Many, many thanks for your script.

For this feature to be complete, based on the descriptions of this request from other users, in addition to individual voice/unvoice, there should be an admin command to change the whole room.

Based on this, my suggestion would be to have three user permissions with regard to voice... voice, unvoice, and default (using whatever names seem appropriate... maybe muted and unmuted, I don't know). Then, have a room setting which could be something like muted/unmuted. The conditional statement would first check to see if the user has a specific muted/unmuted setting... if they were set to default, then the room's muted/unmuted setting could be used. In this manner, the system could be used to turn off chat for all but specific "voiced" people (so that an admin wouldn't have to manually set each user to muted as they came in), and it could also be used to allow everyone except those who had lost the privilege to talk be able to chat (expressed differently, it could be used for crowd control such as this user's request, or for punishment of rowdy members).

I believe this would adequately fulfill the request that many users have had for pfc 1.x. :)

Ok, thank you for your feedback OldWolf. I'll try to take it into account at best when this set of features will be implemented.
