Error 118: How to fix it?

Postby blackjanix » Sat Jan 05, 2013 4:29 am

Hello.

I wanna start off saying that I'm sorry if this has been posted already but I didn't seem to find any posts on this.

I'm using a basic PFC with dice rolling functionality to Role Play online with a small group. I use a free web hosting service (http://www.000webhost.com) that supports PHP 5.2 and works well with PFC, giving me a bandwith of 100 Gb (More than enough for what I require).

The problem I've had so far is that the chat starts working well. Using the File container and everything, but after a small while (It seems to be at random times when more than 4 people are logged on the chat, with 4 rooms open) the chat starts failing for some, showing 5 digits ping instead of the usual 3 digits one, after that, we have tried reloading the page but it only shows the message

Error 118 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT)

Not giving access to anyone. I've tried checking bandwith and multiple connections handling on the chat, but it acts up randomly. So if anyone could give me at least a heads up on this I'd be grateful.

Thanks in advance. :)

Might be something in your HOST -file.
Try to open it, it's located here on a windows computer (from XP and later I believe)
C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\ -> HOSTS.
Open up HOSTS with notepad or another text editor, and look for anything written after the last hash-sign (#) - anything written outside of that might cause traffic to be redirected on your computer, and therefor it may block some websites!

Try to delete it, if you find anything (don't delete the HOSTS file though!), and try to log on to the website again. If you get the same thing, try to press Ctrl + F5

Hope this helped!

I had the same problem with my 64bit windows7 and i am unable to open my site http://expras.com/. 118 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT)"
The problem is with your IP address and it doesn't matter if you use google chrome or other browsers.
You simply have to renew your IP address in the following way:
1.Get to a command prompt in your startup menu and type: cmd
now you are in command mode
2.type: "ipconfig/release" (without the quotes ,on the command line by itself)
3.type: "ipconfig/renew" (without the quotes ,on the command line by itself)

done!
hope this answer can help
