Pop up Smiley box

Hello , is there anyway to have a box pop up to show an extra choice of smileys when u click on the smiley icon ?

I want to leave the standard emoticons under the chat, but i want to add some extra emoticons that wont all show where the default ones but instead will show in a popup box when u click the smiley icon, reason for this is that i want to add a fair amount of ".gif" animated emoticons and having all under the chat where the standard ones are tends to lag the page a bit,
