Hi,

We have set up Free Php Chat on our website that uses the login information for our forum to let users use the same usernames. We have also appointed forum moderators to keep things in check. These individuals have additional privileges in the forum but do not have full Admin status on the website. However, we want to be able to give them an admin log in for the chat, so they have the shield icon and can kick and ban users. We know you can do this by using the /op [nickname] command but it doesn't stick! So as soon as the person leaves chat and then comes back those admin privileges have to be re-instigated. Obviously this isn't much use since the whole point is we want someone else to manage our chat for us.

Is there a way to make a user a chat admin on a permanent basis without making them a back end admin of our whole site??

Thanks,
John

Hi,

depending of the CMS you have , this can be done like taking the user ID from the database it,
is possible that your system has this already or might be one of integrated ,created by anyone in the forum..

Please provide a bit of info about you CMS and your index.php so we can help you out.

regards.

The CMS is wordpress using Simple:Press forum logins to integrate with the chat. The chat recognizes wordpress admin status as chat admin but we can't seem to appoint someone who doesn't have the overall admin access, ie.it doesn't recognize moderators.

hi,

A conditional test on a hardcode code could help you quickly with this problem you have..

Find what variable set the nickname in the param nick, then just do something like:

Code: Select all
if($wp->username == 'jhonDoe')params['isadmin'] = true;

posing that the $wp->username holds the nickname the user is logged in with, and "JhonDoe" the nickname you wanna make admin in the chat only but is a regular user in WP CMS.

regards.

Excellent. Managed to get this to work. Thanks very much. I'm sure i tried something along these lines before but I must have been editing the wrong index file in the php. Anyway this definitely helped. Much appreciated.
