I'm thinking about using PhpFreeChat on my coming web site, a BuddyPress/WordPress web site. I tried a different solution before, but it didn't work out. That solution relies on HTTP socket for communications (or otherwise I need to have a separate chat server which is currently not an option for me) which eventually chokes my web server that hosts it even with 2 channels. I wonder if PhpFreeChat has the same or similar issue. Thanks for any info.
to be realistic httprequest is not the way to go for a chat room..
as of now PHPFREECHAT would allow you to a few persons in the chat in a shared server... if you have a dedicated possible a bit more, but dont think you can have more than 50 at one time, without seeing a great drop in server and chat performance.
Correct, Shared hosting is not the best method for having a large amount of chatters with http based chat. If you're looking into having a lot of chatters, you may want to look into IRC.
