We do a live podcast and wanted a chat window so people could discuss it at the same time. I did some testing with phpFreeChat and everything seemed to be working.

When we had 60+ people join the chat it started acting strange. Many times it seemed to freeze and would stop working. When we had 60+ people it would not show the ip for most the people and many times when you tried to private msg somebody it said that user was not available.

Towards the end of the podcast when we only 40 people it seemed to work fine again.

So my question is, how many people can phpFreeChat support? We plan on having between 100-200 people in the chat at the time. Anybody else using a large number of people in the chat and having it work correctly?

What do you think is the problem when phpfreechat starts acting weird when you have a lot of people connected?

Thanks.

Man, this chat is a not go it really is nice and can be customized very much but holding that amount of people is almost impossible even if you have a Dedicated Server and or PVS it will not hold that many users at the same time, you could use it for maybe 60 but you need to tweak the "refresh_delay" param and also eliminate the PV for users, and some other stuff... hope this clear up a bit for you.. regards

I'd really recommend using an IRC solution of some kind for what your trying to do. They have java based clients that you could provide on your site to connect to an IRC server, but pfc really just can't do what your wanting it to.

Ok Thanks!

I am trying out qwebirc now with the QuakeNet IRC server and see how that goes.
