I'm running 1.0-beta2 on a test server and browsing it with Firefox 1.5.0.4. It doesn't work, I just get the chat window with nothing appearing inside it, and the Javascript console gives two errors:

"Class is not defined" on line 16 (the line here is, "var pfcI18N = Class.create();") and

"pfcClient is not a constructor" on line 2193 ("var pfc = new pfcClient();")

It looks like everything is the same as the demo on the site (which works fine on the same browser), it just gives me these errors.

could you give me the public url of your chat ?
could you try to clear the cache (delete the data/private/cache/ content)

Clearing the cache didn't work.

I have it on our site, Guam Island Chat, in an unlinked-to directory:

www.guamislandchat.com/phpfreechat-1.0-beta

You'll need a (free) user on our system to get there.

That is beta2. I just took the "2" off the end of the directory name.

This is strange because I can't browse the data/public/javascript directory , ex : http://www.guamislandchat.com/phpfreech ... ipt/md5.js

Could you check on your server if phpfreechat-1.0-beta/data/public/javascript/md5.js exists and check the file permissions ?

It's working now! There were two problems:

For some reason the file you mention, as well as everything else in the javascript directory, didn't have Group and Other Read and Execute rights.

I also figured out that the themes directory is in the root of the tarball, but the script is looking for it in data/public. I moved it there and I had to change the rights on those files, too. After I did all that, it's working fine.

Thanks for your help!

This bug will be fixed in the next release, I created directory with 700 unix rights but it doesn't work on some strange configured servers so I changed the rights to 755.

The "themes" directory should be copied into data/public/ by the script. So there is a problem if you don't have themes directory into data/public/

Which script is supposed to copy it over? Because it never happened. I had to do it manually.

OK, more problems: it wasn't taking my configuration changes (I was trying to change the theme), so I used the /rehash command...and it reset all the directory rights to 700, not 755, and now I have to change them all back manually again. :(

Oh, and it STILL didn't change my theme.

Could you try to replace pfctools.php by this content : http://svn.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.cgi/ ... up&rev=638

It should fix the permission problems.
