Genders -change icon to female

Hi all.

I have finaly set my chat with with phbb3 - nov it shows everething that I like (avatars, link to profiles. age....)
except:

I want to change male icon to female if gender is female
I have variable $gender. 1 is for male and 2 for female.

How to change icon? eg. if $gender is female then gender icon is female
