Here a little screenshot to show how the works is going :

However, I'm not satisfied by the MSN icon in the tabs ...
I would like better icons : one for multiple user channel tabs, on for private message tabs.

If you have an idea for these icons, I take it :)
If you have good graphical skills and want to contribute with some icons drawing, I take it too :)

That looks pretty funky Mr. Kerphi you're doing a great job!!

I was wondering how hard it would be to implement an extra (hidden?) tab for (future) services. A Tab for developers wanting to develop additional stuff (for example adding search functionality) and place it in 1 location without affecting any stuff of the chat. I don't know if this will allready be possible through your containers? But I was thinking of this tab that could be enabled through config by the chat owner.

A developer should be adding stuff by doing things like:

create a working module and catch the output by using stuff like
using vars: $template->replace("something", $something_title);

or

ob_start();
[do_something]
$something = ob_get_contents();
ob_end_clean();

$template->replace("something", $something);

Perhaps I'm asking to much, but I was just wondering if it is possible.

Take Care,

Steve

p.s. I'm still studying your work and must admit i just love the IRC approach cuz when it comes to chat, IRC environments are the most sophisticated. Also I installed subversion(win32) for some projects I'm re-doing (have svn working, yeah!) and would like to have some advize on repository layout and version numbers from a developers point of view.

Tabs will only contains channels and private messages.
However, developer can create customized chat command which can be used in these tabs, see the roll demo as an example :

Great! I searched for the code of the Roll/Dice thing to see how it is done, but I couldn't find it :s We'll I'll search again, thx for the answer.

Concerning your request: I prefer icons that present the real world as much as possible, I prefer these kind of images: => Image - Image above those buddy/ puppet kind of icons cuz I refuse to believe I am chatting with a puppet ;) But that's my humble opinion.

When it comes to icons for a default theme I would say let them be clear and simple. There's nothing worse than icons that make you wonder what would happen if you press them or what they represent. An image displays more then a thousand words. So they shouldn't raise questions. For example: (The example below would be 1 image including the arrow.)

should the private message process be displayed as: Image
or should it be displayed as :
Image+<== ( red left arrow for incoming private message/chat request (green arrow when accepted?))
and
Image+==> (red right arrow for outgoing privat message/chat request (green when accepted?)).

I'm trying to understand the level of user friendlyness you want to implement. But I think iconizing should not only be action based but also process supportive. So with a schema/scope of global icon needs for phpFreeChat it might be easier to either find or create effective icons for the default theme. But for me, clear and simple icons are preferred, icons can be funky as long as funky comes after bringing across the message.

Thank you m0d0 for your advice.
I agree with you : the default icons must be simple and clear.

I tried to design these icons :
Image for channels
Image fro private messages

I think I will use it except if I found better ones.

For your information, I'm a bit late on 1.0 release but I will work on it during this long week end (3 days). I hope to release a first beta very soon.
Thank for your patience.

Kerphi,

The demo looks great.

The chosen icons for the tabs are fine, they clearly represent "chat".

Glad to see you chose the people like icons for the chatters.

Looking forward to the 1.0
