Hi to all,
it's first time i try to use phpfreechat, 'cause the demo sound pretty good !

I download the zip, and upload it to my host. i change permission in data directory but ...

i don't undestand how to install and customize chat.

i don't find the file "phpfreechat-x.x-setup.php" to setup him, not in the site, not in the zip ...

i wonder ... and i try to load the "index" page of demo, and it starts,
but even if i try to customize them by [params] ... nothing works.

Host is offered by a famous italian isp, on apache 2.

Pls help me,

great thanks to @ developers & contributors !

[edit]: i try first to search in the forum, but i can't find an answer ...

To set up a chat, you'll model the index or any of the demo files (in the demo subfolder) in your own file, using parameters to customize it. You could also modify index to make changes.

The problem you were having with things not actually changing is likely because you loaded the index once, and it set up a cache. The cache has most of the parameter's saved... so you will need to do one of two things to clear it so the new parameters are stored:
1. Type the command /rehash in the chat you've made changes to.
OR
2. Delete the folder "cache" in /phpfreechat/data/private/... When you load the chatroom again, it will set up a new cache with the data you've specified.

Sometimes you'll find the second option is the only way to go (if, for example, your parameters have caused the chat to have an issue like not loading). /rehash is much easier though! :P

On a side note, you can also find the global default variables in /phpfreechat/src/pfcglobalconfig.class.php. Here you could make changes to how the system sets all chatroom defaults... but I'd only do so if you know what your doing or you could cause yourself more problems. :)

Hope that helps!
James
