I noticed that you release phpFreechat under the LGPL. According to the LGPL one can use it or modify it even in commercial projects which is why the LGPL exists as opposed to the GPL. I find it curious that you would offer it under the LGPL and then charge a licensing fee for commercial projects. I thought the LGPL exists to protect the rights of commercial developers.

I could be wrong, I'm a programmer not a lawyer. I was wondering if anyone here could clarify that for me?

In fact if you read more carefully the license page, LGPL is used only for chats with the linkback logo.
As long as the logo is kept, the chat is totally free even if the project is commercial.

I think I understand, but your answer leaves me with two questions.

1. What license is phpFreechat distributed under if there is no logo/linkback in a commercial application? The "License" page didn't clarify that specifically.

2. What license is phpFreechat distributed under if there is no logo/linkback in a personal/private application?

It seems to me that the answer to 1 and 2 are the same. I just don't know what it would be? Is it then a copyrighted work?

If the linkback logo are removed, the license is not LGPL anymore but it is a commercial license described in the second part of the license page. Then your application (commercial or not) should be in one of the 4 cases described on the license page, if not we will study your case manually.
