I've seen that on some IE6 installation the smilies are not animated. I'll try to extract the smilies code form Js making it static on the page (as HTML) and tell you if this will help.
I don't use themes as I call css files from the container page, so this would not be a problem for me.

smileys are classic html image. it's strange that the gif animation is not played ... are you able to reproduce the bug ?

Well as I told, this happens only on some IE6 installation. On my IE at work the gif are not animated, on the same IE at home the animations work.
