Can I filtr the nicks?

Hi to all. I am thankful for this great chat application. I want to ask you I can I do a filter which will work like this:

I will do a registration, user will fill age and gender. The user then will specify if he wants to see male or female and then how old chatters he want to speak with. Now when I have the information, can I filter out the nicks and text in chat window which the user does not want to see? He would see only the chatters hat has the condition true...

Can you tell me what object or method I should to change or to extend (and where would I to give such extension). In fact I am very beginer in PHP OOP and i know just the basices how to create and call a method.
