OK I'm trying to do it without the SMF bridge. I put phpfreechat-1.0-beta10-setup.php in my root and when I browse there it says ..

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/xxxxxx/public_html/phpfreechat-1.0-beta10-setup.php on line 19

Use the zip or tar.gz archive.

Yes my fault I did not read the instructions fully. Got the standalone working but I'd really like to get the SMF bridge working.

When I load http://forum.eoaa.org/index.php?action=pfchat it says Chat loading please wait forever. Then I ran http://forum.eoaa.org/PFChat/checkmd5.php and it says that the theme file in msn smileys is corrupt. Tried uploading all those files again from the zip but it didn't change.

And can you please think why is it that when I first install the bridge it works. And then, if I change the pfcconfig.php and delete the cache it then won't work? Even if I put the original pfcconfig.php back and delete the cache again it don't work, just says chat loading please wait?

EDIT : Well even the standalone says the same thing about msn smileys. So why don't it work with the bridge after I change the pfcconfig.php?

I think it's a problem with permissions because any new files that pfchat creates I cannot change permissions for! Why is this so? Is there not a way to install so that I can set permssions like normal for all files and folders under pfchat. After installing the standalone version I can change permissions on all folders and files but on a fresh SMF bridge install I can't change any at all. I have to ask my host to allow me to set permissions but I can't be doing that every five minutes when I mess something up and have to start again!

Well I am able to set perissions for all files in /forum after using the forum admin control panel. http://www.omegadesigns.net/support/ind ... topic=52.0

Not sure how secure my forum is after doing that? Anyhow it still don't work so I'm going to start agian and have permissions set to All files are writable and see how I get on.

Spent some more time on it but can't get it to work. When it initially installs I can't set permissions for any folders or files in /PFChat but odly enough it loads and works initially. Then if I force the forum to set 777 on all files I can change permissions for all files and folders except for newly created ones. If I clear the cache and delete everything in /forum/PFChat/data/private/chat and then use the default original pfcconfig.php it won't load. I even tried doing that and then using the forum to force 'Only the standard files are writable'. Which puts the permissions back as they were i.e. permissions can't be changed.

So it writes folders and files initially and I have to use the forum to set 777 so I can over write the pfcconfig.php but it don't work after doing that. It doesn't seem to be able to write to /forum/PFChat/data/private/chat as that's where a whole bunch of folders and files go when it loads initially.

I'm sure you can see that this is a problem others will come across and so I think it needs addressing.

OK it can write to /forum/PFChat/data/private/cache but it can't write to /forum/PFChat/data/private/chat/s_b087b6b69cf204a102aa2743a56c691b

public, private, cache, chat and s_b087b6b69cf204a102aa2743a56c691b all have 777 and I can change permissions for all those files although I had to ask my provider to allow me to set permissions for some of those files.

I'm sure it is a permissions issue because when I run it the first time without changing anything it works. Folders and files are written to the chat folder. Change lets say only the chat room name then force the forum to allow all files writable so that I can upload pfcconfig.php. Delete what's in cache and in fact even delete everything in the private folder except the htacess file.. (that's how it is when it initially installs) and it can't write to the chat folder.

Sorry if I sound like a broken record but this problem feels like a broken record and I really want phpfreechat to work because it's perfect for my needs although some extra features woudln't go a miss for this forum bridge. Like that javascript chat for smf shows how many are in the chat room in the Who's online or Users online. I think that might be possible for this bridge too.

Lol, can't believe it but I managed to get the chat I have that's out side of the forum folder to link to the forum. Simply by looking at the bridge code copying it and then putting the correct directories. It works but I've no way to set which member groups can use the chat.

What I want to do now is disallow anyone who is not a forum member access to chat. How do I do that?

So I wonder why the bridge doesn't work. Could it be because the forum is on a subdomain?

One problem are the spaces in names. It removes anything after a space. Not so much a bug but I'm sure that must be fixable?

OK I have a major problem!

There seems to be a rboken link some where. I have a server and use VNC which is like remote desktop. I logged in as Test member to my forum from the server then went to chat and it logged me in as Test. Then when I close the chat and close the browser I come back to my home PC and go to my forum. It says Test member is online in the Users Online in the forum but Test member (server) is not online because I closed the browser on the server. So I delete the Test member account and reboot the server and now in the Users Online in the forum the server is there as a guest! It's the server IP but it's no logged on to the forum at all.

So it must be writing something and then when the chat is closed it doesn't tell the forum that that member has disconnected. Please help, how can I destroy the session and then what code do I need to make sure this doens't happen?

This is my current code but what does it need so that when I log off chat it logs off on the Users online in the forum too? This is really bad if my forum is showing users as online when they are not and not even in chat. It's writing and then doing nothing afterwards! I don't know hardly any php so please explain what I have to do step by step.

Code: Select all
<?php

require_once dirname(__FILE__)."/../src/phpfreechat.class.php";

require_once dirname(__FILE__)."../../../forum/SSI.php";

$params["serverid"]    = md5(__FILE__); // calculate a unique id for this chat
$params["title"]       = "EOAA Chat";
$params["theme"]       = "zilveer";
$params["frozen_nick"] = true;
$params["channels"]    = array("Main");
$params["shownotice"]  =  3;
$params["isadmin"]     =  false;
$params["nickmarker"]  =  true;
$params['nick']          = $user_info['name'];      //Gets display name from SMF
$params['admins'] = array('xx' => 'xx', //Administrator and password

                          'Admin2'  => 'Adminpass2');
$chat = new phpFreeChat( $params );

?>

Hmm it seems to take about 10 minutes or so for the forum to update itself in regards to a guest or member leaving. So I think it's normal just me freaking out thinking the chat room is playing havok with my forum.

So now I'm going to see what changes the SMF bridge makes to some of the forum files.

There is a definite problem with white spaces. I've searched around and can't see a solution. I have connected the forum to the chat php file and if a forum member called Test member logs into the chat, his chat name is Test.

And also if I use $params["frozen_nick"] = true; well it seems that it registers the forum name Test member and then because it has a problem with the white space it sees it as Test and then thinks it's a name change. At first it gives a warning and does log in but after a refresh the account is fronzen and I can't do anything.

Is there a solution because for now I have to disable frozen nick? And can you please tell me how I stop everyone except my forum members joining the chat?

Many thanks and here's our forum .. www.forum.eoaa.org
