I've been trying to implement this for 2 different sites I'm working on and have run into a number of problems. On one of the sites I've tied it into phpbb3.

First, things seem to be rather seriously broken in the IE8 beta. For instance the user list doesn't appear at all and ends up showing the names down below the chat window, overlapping the input box.

They appear to work in other browsers though (Firefox, Opera, Safari etc).

There also appear to be a number of frustrating "bugs" with the caching system. If I log out of the chat (/quit), and then also log out of phpbb3, but then open a different browser, or even the same browser sometimes, I get back in without having to re-authenticate. I realize that isn't a problem with PFC specifically, but with the phpbb3 integration and the caching system not playing well.

I had a problem with the showsmileys param not accepting being set to false, even after multiple rehashes and clearing the cache etc. Then suddenly it started working and has worked since.

The fonts for things like the username (handle) and the send button next to the input box seem to show up as different sizes off and on... sometimes sticking to the size I want, sometimes being resized to a tiny size etc.

The channel tabs are broken in basically every browser and are very badly broken in IE8. They variously are the wrong height, wrong offset, have the content extending past the top of the tabs, or don't even show the tops/bottoms of the tabs at all. The channels list UL bottom border doesn't extend all the way to the right...

These are just some of the things I've run into in the last 24 hours.

I really like the chat, but it seems brittle around the edges at the moment. Is there a forum for more active development or ways to help other than contributing documentation?

I don't know enough about the project to really contribute in that sense, nor am I a programmer with enough ability to easily debug and fix up the problems I encounter.

Not sure really how to proceed, but wanted to voice my concerns. I like PFC and it seems very promising, but it feels a little too rough at the moment to implement on my production servers... I'd thusly like to see if I can help move it in that direction. :)

Thanks!

Are these all issues you can reproduce (minus the session problem with phpbb) in the live demo?

I should also mention, in IE7 I have 0 visual issues... perhaps IE8 still have some kinks that need to be worked out?

I'll try grabbing the latest code from SVN and seeing what problems I can reproduce on which platforms.

I'm wondering if you're seeing these problems on the live demo though:

That would help narrow if it's an installation problem versus a software problem. :)

Hey phreadom,
On IE 8 you have to run the compatibility viewer on it. This will make it to were the CSS behaves like it should.

Hey certifiedgeek05, I appreciate your attempt to help people here, but could you please start checking the dates of threads you're replying to. You're hashing up a lot of dead threads.

Thanks,
OldWolf
