phpfreechat and long polling (comet app)

I wonder why phpfreechat is still using polling at regular intervals, that's not a good scaling solution.

Are there any plans to implement a long polling solution, something like http://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0124.html
(BOSH - Bidiretional streams over synchronous HTTP) ?
